Paul Fournier and Perry Castellano were selected by MLB to serve as National and American League strength and conditioning coaches, respectively for the 2014 All-Star Game at Target Field in Minneapolis. Fournier is only the third NL strength and conditioning coach to be invited to participate in the MLB All-Star Game. He has 17 years of experience in the field including stints with the Phillies, Marlins and Expos. Paul became the Phillies Major League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator in 2013 after serving two years (2011-2012) as their Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. Prior to joining the Phillies, he was the Major League Strength and Conditioning Director for the Florida Marlins for eight years (2003-2011) and Minor League Athletic Training, Rehabilitation and Conditioning Coordinator for two years (2002-2003). Paul began his career in professional baseball as an athletic trainer with the Montreal Expos in 1995. He later served as the Expos Minor League Athletic Training, Rehabilitation and Conditioning Coordinator from 1997-2002). Paul is a NATA certified athletic trainer and is a NSCA Certified (CSCS) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC).
Castellano also has 15 years of experience in professional baseball including Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach positions with the Rangers and Twins. He began his career in professional baseball in 2001 as the Minor League Strength and Nutrition Coach for the Texas Rangers before accepting the position of Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Twins in 2002. He served in that capacity until 2006. Perry was promoted to Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Twins in 2007. He is a NSCA Certified and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction (CSCS*D and RSCC*D). Perry received the Nolan Ryan Award for being voted the MLB Strength Coach of the year by his peers in 2010.
The 2014 All-Star Game was the second time that Strength and Conditioning Coaches were selected to represent both the AL and NL. Coaches were selected by on the basis of tenure, experience and accomplishments.
